Alexandra Tomlinson

Alex Tomlinson qualified in 1992 from Cambridge University Veterinary School. Following seven years in general practice, she had a spell working for the UK Government on Animal Health, followed by three years teaching animal science. Alex first entered the world of wildlife health by undertaking the MSc in Wild Animal Health at the Royal Veterinary College/Institute of Zoology. Her interest in wildlife continued with a year spent in Cornwall, UK, developing wildlife pathology skills under the guidance of Dr Vic Simpson. Following this Alex spent seven years working at Woodchester Park in Gloucestershire on the epidemiology of bovine tuberculosis in badgers, where she also completed her PhD. Alex is now self-employed, dividing her time between a variety of wildlife-health and sustainable farming issues. As a skilled epidemiologist:
- Alex was lead author of the disease risk analysis, and on-the-ground veterinarian, for the Vincent Wildlife Trust’s pine marten recovery programme https://www.pine-marten-recovery-project.org.uk/ .
- In addition, Alex worked closely with Drs. John Lewis and Martin Gilbert on the Disease Risk Analysis for Amur leopard re-introduction into the Russian Far East.
